Hallé Soloists

Hallé Soloists

Oboe plus Three

This Sunday afternoon summer programme of music for oboe and string trio is performed by members of Manchester’s world-beating orchestra, the Hallé, and is led by Stéphane Rancourt, the orchestra’s Principal Oboe. His fine playing and beauty of sound have captured the imagination of audiences in the orchestra’s home city and across the world. I have been privileged to work with the orchestra and with Stéphane on a number of occasions, and I am thrilled that we have been able to bring this outstanding musician and his colleagues to Alwinton.

This unique programme unusually includes three oboe quartets, two lovely works by Moeran and Arnold and ends with Mozart’s exquisite and ever-popular Oboe Quartet. The string trio repertoire is less familiar than that for string quartet, but this trio by Beethoven is a major work and Sibelius’ little-known trio is a perfect gem.
